From September 7-9, Lay Dehonians of the BRE Province met in João Pessoa-PB (Brazil). The event was linked to the 80th year of the BRE Province and the 125th anniversary of the presence of the congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Brazil.
The participants represented many of the Dehonian parishes present in various states of Brazil: Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco and Alagoas. During the days several very touching moments were shared: the reception of seminarians in the congregation; moments of prayer, liturgical celebrations and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. There was time for relaxation and sharing among those present, as well as several conferences, including one from Fr. Luis Carlos, who told of his experience of when he was responsible for the Dehonian laity, and that of Gimesson Eduardo, who, instead, focused on the importance of the role of the laity in the congregation. Fr. Carlos Alberto, former provincial superior of BRE, gave a brief history of the province. Fr. José Valdina talked about the Dehonian charism and the spirituality of the Dehonian lay people.
The SCJ currently responsible for the lay Dehonians, Fr. Pedro Moura, gave the final conference of the gathering. He spoke of the “Road of the Lay Dehonians”; plans of formation and other projects in 2019.
