Fr. Antonius Gerardus van Dongen

Father Antonius Gerardus van Dongen was born on August 2, 1928 and was 92 years old. He took his first vows on September 8, 1949 and was ordained priest on July 15, 1956.

He was currently living in Nijmegen (Netherlands). He belonged to the Province NLV.

Into your hands I commit my very life. (Ps 31:5)

After his ordination to the priesthood, Fr. Antonius’ first assignment was to work in the Congo. This appointment proved decisive for the rest of his pastoral work. From 1958 to 2001 he was a zealous parish priest, close to the people. From 1964 onwards he was a member of our Congolese Province. Despite physical problems. In 1964/65 he was hospitalized in De Klokkenberg (Breda), where he underwent an operation on his lungs. And later he suffered more and more from an eye disease, for which he was operated in Nijmegen in 1986. In 2001 Nol then returned to the Netherlands, where he became a valued member of our monastery Sint Jozef and since March 2021 at Huize Rosa. His eyesight increasingly failed, but he endured admirably, supported also by the confreres and nurses.
