Fr. Thomas Vinod SCJ, the district superior of India, updated the Council on the terrible flooding in the Chennai district.
“We appreciate your prayers and concern for Indian people and in particular for all the victims of flood in and around Chennai. It is the first time in history that the city of Chennai has experienced such great flooding. Heavy rains affected 75% of the people in the city. Most lost their houses and belongings. People are still finding it difficult to recover and get back to their normal way of life.”
The Indian district has identified several families in the poorest and hardest hit areas who need help in repairing crumbled walls and replacing roofs that were washed away. The Generalate is sending €5000 to help with reconstruction projects.
Other help from SCJ entities or individuals would be greatly appreciated. Donations sent in care of the General Treasurer will go directly to help these families in need.
