On 14 March 2024, on the occasion of Father Dehon's birthday, the District of Angola celebrated 20 years of presence on Angolan soil.
The District of Angola is one of the youngest entities of the Congregation of the Priests of the Heart of Jesus. On 14 March, on the occasion of Father Dehon’s birthday, it celebrated 20 years of presence in Angola. The first Dehonian missionaries arrived in Angola on 5 March 2004 and began to implant Dehonian spirituality among the local population, working in parish assistance.
The thanksgiving Mass for 20 years of mission was presided over by Father Charles Koudjou, General Councilor for Africa, and was well attended by the people of the parish who, together with the missionaries, are celebrating 20 years of existence as a parish. As Fr Charles said in his speech of thanks, this parish is the “navel of the Dehonians in Angola”. Among the other highlights of the day was the appointment to the ministry of acolyte of Brother Adão Mateus, SCJ, a member of the Angola District.
