Our spirituality is based on reparation and oblation so the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus –– Dehonianos in Chile –– do not remain as spectators to a tragedy that our brothers in the south of the country are experiencing due to the multiple number of fires that are burning in the forests and villages in the VI, VII and VII regions.
On Saturday afternoon a delegation led by our provincial superior, Fr. Johnny Li, went to the Maule region to bring contributions of non-perishable foods, utensils, bottled water, toiletries and other items collected by our communities in the parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima and from the Sacred Heart Institute of San Bernardo. These were designated as authorized places of collection.
All of the aid collected is destined for the parish of San Ignacio de Empedrado and San José, both in the area of Constitución, zones that were totally devastated by the fires. Chilean firefighters and volunteers have been battling these fires for two weeks with the assistance of supertanker aircrafts, helicopters and other heavy machinery.
As Dehonians in Chile we are happy and grateful for everything that was collected between January 27-28. We offer many thanks to those who gave what they could, and those who lent us a hand, helping to repair the hearts of our southern brothers.
