It was a quick Provincial Chapter –– only a few hours on Monday afternoon, June 18! All entities in the congregation have to hold a chapter to elect delegates to the General Chapter that will be held in Rome in July. Of course, the General Chapter is necessary following the nomination of Fr. Heiner Wilmer, SCJ, former superior general, as bishop of Hildeshiem.
The US Province elected Frs. Vien Nguyen, SCJ, and Jack Kurps, SCJ, as delegates to the General Chapter, and Frs. Charles Brown, SCJ, and Quang Nguyen, SCJ, as alternates. They are pictured above (L-R: Frs. Charles, Quang, Jack and Vien).
The chapter concluded its business in the midst of a flood! As the last session came to a close epic rains made their way into the meeting hall and Provincial Offices. As the water-removing fans were brought in, SCJs moved across the street for closing Mass at Sacred Heart at Monastery Lake. Fr. Ed Kilianski was the main celebrant; he was assisted by Dn. Juan Carlos Castañeda Rojas.
