We rejoice to inform that Fr. Carlos Luis Suárez Codorniú has been elected Superior General of the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus by the members of the XXV General Chapter gathered in Rome.

Fr. Carlos Luis Suárez Codorniú was born on September 2, 1965 in Las Palmas (Spain). He professed his first vows on September 29, 1984, and was ordained to the priesthood on September 14, 1990. Fr. Carlos earned a Licentiate in Sacred Scriptures granted by the Pontifical Biblical Institute (1995) and a Doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In the Region of Venezuela, to which he belonged, he held the position of Regional Councilor. In his academic career, Fr. Carlos held various assignments in addition to teaching at the Institute of Theology for Religious (ITER) in Caracas, and at the Faculty of Theology of the Andrés Bello Catholic University in Caracas (UCAB). He has also participated in many international experiences, both in Latin American and in other countries (such as Italy, India, Israel, Germany and the United States). He was a formator at the International Theologate “Juan María de la Cruz” in Caracas, and worked in the accompaniment of marginalized young people. During the XXIV General Chapter (2018) he was elected Superior General and now he was entrusted with the responsibility of continuing to lead the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Following his election, the XXV General Chapter will proceed with the election of the General Councilors who will assist Fr. Carlos in his ministry of leadership.

May the Holy Spirit guide our Superior General to animate the Congregation in the spirit of the Sint Unum, living out our Dehonian charism as a testimony in this world in transformation.

Vivat Cor Iesu + Per Cor Mariae
