Fr. General Heiner Wilmer continues visitation of the SCJ community in South Africa. For three days on 3, 4 and 5 March he and Fr. Leopold Mfouakouet SCJ were hosted by the SCJ scholasticate community in Pietermaritzburg (PMB). The SCJ International Formation House in that city houses this year 18 SCJ scholastics. Its existence for the last 10 years proved to be positive, the increasing number of young SCJs in Mozambique, Angola and South Africa calls however for its expansion. It is hoped that the visit will be decisive about the latter and that it will contribute to coordinate even more the sphere of initial formation in Africa and Madagascar.
On 5th March Fr. General presided the Eucharist during which 8 PMB confreres were installed into the ministry of reader and acolyte.
Besides a series of meetings with scholastics and the PMB formation team there was also time to visit the Saint Joseph’s Theological Institute of Cedara that provides academic formation for 250 scholastics of various religious communities from 25 African countries.
On Sunday 6th March Fr General presided Eucharistic celebration in the SCJ parish in Pietermaritzburg; on that day he also paid a short visit to Bishop Zolile Mpambani SCJ in Kokstaad.
