Reflection on the 4th Sunday of Advent
Dearly beloved in the Lord, we are celebrating the fourth and last Sunday of Advent. Last Sunday, we were invited to ask the right people what we should do. Today, we are invited to enter into God’s plan. This is what Christ, whose coming we await, did, and with him his parents, both the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. They had personal plans which, although important and right, did not correspond to what was written about them in the Book. As soon as they became aware of this through the angel’s messages, they abandoned these plans to fulfil the one that God had reserved for them. Mary did this so well that her Son said of her: “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it” (Lk 11:28).
We are not a spontaneous generation, the fruit of chance. As creatures of God, he has a plan and a purpose for each one of us. It is therefore important for us to listen to the Lord, to become aware of his plan for us and, like Christ, to take the courageous decision to fulfil it. “The cup that the Father has given me, shall I refuse to drink it?” (Jn 18:11).
That is also what it means to welcome Christ: to be ready to do as he did what is written about us, with all the joys and sacrifices that entails.
Happy Sunday and a holy day to you. God bless you all!
