In these difficult days following the earthquake in Ecuador we are close to our confreres who work in that country. The information that we received speaks of serious problems. The Ecuadorian coast was the most affected area. Confreres in Bahía de Caráquez (Manabi Province, which is on the coast) are the ones who are suffering the most because the city is largely destroyed. There are ten casualties among the parishioners and many more are injured. Our house in Bahía suffered serious damage. Due to the rains of the last few days the main roads linking the mountains and the coast are impassable at several points, making it even more difficult to receive help. The Superior General, Fr. Heiner, writing to the District Superior, Fr. José Luis Domínguez, ensures that “Our prayers are joined with your prayers, our thoughts are joined to your thoughts. May God bless your community, the people of Ecuador and your mission.”
