From September 26-30, the Major Superiors of the Priests of the Sacred Heart met in Santiago, Chile. They came from Brazil – Sao Paolo, South Brazil, Brazil – Recife, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Maranhão, Paraguay and Ecuador.
During the meeting the participants enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the Chileans and learned about the educational and pastoral components of the parish that the Chilean Province manages. The gathering began with a retreat given by Fr. Julian Braun. It was centered on the figure of Abraham and the Rule of Life. This served as the basis for the formulation of a response to the programmatic letter of the General Government. After a pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. Teresa of the Andes, the participants discussed common issues in Latin America such as the situation of the entities and their commitments in mission ad gentes, the proposals for action suggested by the General Government for the interior regions, the continuity of the missionary presence in Uruguay, animation for mission ad gentes, the search for strategies to create a synergy in the entities of Latin America, the schedule of meetings of the congregation and Latin America, the evaluation of the International Theologate in Caracas, and future projects.
From Santiago, the superiors of the entities share a message of hope to the congregation for a new growth in vocations to the consecrated life and encourage SCJs to go forth with courage and a sense of availability for the Reign of the Heart of Jesus in souls and society, especially where others do not want to go or to stay.
