On May 25, 2015, Fr. Heiner Wilmer, SCJ, was elected superior general of the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Dehonians). He is the 10th superior general in the 138 years of the congregation. Since the election, 365 days have passed; 180 days have been spent planning, reflecting and making decisions. Already there are 48 sets of minutes, a concrete sign of the meetings held with the council.
A plan is written
With the council Fr. General prepared and published the Six Year Plan: “Mercy in the Footsteps of God.” Three letters were written to the entities that were closely linked to this theme, one for Christmas (“Traces of Christmas”), one on the occasion of the birth of Fr. Leo John Dehon (“The Other –– The Trace of Mercy”), and finally, the letter for the Feast of the Sacred Heart (“Welcome the Stranger”).
Visitations and meetings
Fr. Heiner met directly with the congregation through visits to the entities in India, Argentina, Uruguay and South Africa. He was also elected to the executive board of the Union of Superiors General.
